Driver arrested following deadly Brian Mazibuko Drive crash

Eyewitnesses reported that a white Toyota Quantum was travelling from Jiyane Section when the driver allegedly reversed at high speed.

A taxi driver has been arrested by Thembisa South SAPS following a fatal crash that claimed the life of a woman on March 25.

The suspect faces charges of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.

The incident occurred along Brian Mazibuko Drive in the Ethafeni Section, between the Thembisa South SAPS station and a nearby petrol station.

According to police spokesperson Constable Kate Selepe, eyewitnesses reported that a white Toyota Quantum was travelling from Jiyane Section when the driver allegedly reversed at high speed.

“The taxi was reportedly moving in reverse at a high speed, showing signs of losing control and possibly experiencing brake failure. Passengers were seen screaming and jumping out of the moving vehicle,” said Selepe.

A female victim was found lying on the ground and was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

Four passengers sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby clinic for medical treatment.

The deceased was taken to the Germiston Mortuary.

The suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
