Deon de Ru’s letter (“Ons sal steel, maar nie help nie) refers.
On October 3 at 5.15pm I went to the Standard Bank ATM at the Zenex Garage opposite McDonald’s on Monument Road.
I inserted my card, put in my pin and wanted to withdraw R3 000. The ATM wanted a voucher number.
I put in my pin again. Nothing happened, so I pushed cancel and my card was not returned.
There was a man standing behind me who leaned over and pushed cancel again because nothing happened. He turned around and left. R3 000 was debited from my account at Wolff Street, according to Absa.
I stopped my card immediately at Absa’s call line. I went to the police station who was very helpful. They said I needed bank statements.
On October 4 I went into the branch and they also said there was nothing they could do.tthe money was withdrawn with a card and pin number. Case closed.
Surely there is camera footage at these ATMs to see who withdraws money?
