Glenrus takes special care

Dear Sister Dorie and all the staff at Glenrus Frail Care Centre, we would like to thank you for all you have done for Ivan since he moved into Glenrus on August 19.

Ivan had a stroke on July 28 and spent 23 days in Tembisa Hospital. He was discharged on August 19 after being treated for the stroke, pneumonia, heart failure and meningitis.

When we arrived at Glenrus on that day, we found the staff had fully prepared for him. Sister Dorie welcomed him at the car, helping Ivan to feel less disorientated and cared for.

He was extremely weak. He could not help himself in any way and he could not communicate by coherent speech. But you received and treated him with love, dignity and respect.

With the help of your staff, he improved gradually over the next two months. He also received physiotherapy from Halda Muller.

Every bit of progress he made was enthusiastically encouraged by everyone. With good food he even regained the weight he had lost.

I personally felt welcome at all times and I felt that Ivan was being cared for by an extended family of which the other residents/patients were also part.

The church services on Sunday mornings were very touching and relevant to our lives and God’s presence was really felt.

No words can truly express the gratitude I felt being able to leave Ivan safely in your care, when I knew I could not do it on my own. Ivan is now making further progress at home.
