Offending ‘compost’ is back

About the big stink in Kempton Park.

I do not believe the sewage Erasmus uses for compost purposes is the right thing to do. By the smell we now almost consistently have where we live in Allen Grove, this once a year in seven days is nonsense.

The local farms use irrigators to spray the offending “compost” on the crops. On Friday night and Saturday morning it was so bad my husband got ill from it and I grew a fantastic headache in the night due to the poisons released into the atmosphere because of the irrigation and composting methods used.

Why am I complaining now, you may ask? It has taken some time for me to come a conclusive decision that when the farms are sprayed with the compost, the following symptoms appear in my whole family: stomach upsets, severe headaches, sinus and exacerbated asthma complications. Abdominal pain being the most consistent during any one of the fertilising sessions.

This to me is a clear case of one man profiting by letting the whole community suffer with this so called win-win situation. It seriously impacts on the quality of life in Kempton Park as you have to suffer in silence and pay your own medical bills.

You cannot sit with the windows and doors open on a hot night as the stench is all consuming. I understand there are sewage farms and that it has a serious impact on the quality of life on the adjoining communities,

However, the ratepayers of Kempton Park were never consulted in this decision and gain nothing by it. It is a clear case of profiteering by one man to the detriment of the community as a whole.

I do not even want to think what the ground water looks like in Kempton Park anymore. I am going to approach Fifty-Fifty on SABC and ask what their comment is on the health hazard of breathing sewage daily.
