In our complex known as Kelvin Estate the lights in Starling Street have been out for weeks on end now.
Our local councillor, Tracy Butler, has reported this and requested that the lights be fixed on numerous occasions but to no avail.
Dark areas like these provide ideal shelter to protect any criminal activities and crime is on the increase in our area, but who the heck cares?
At the same time Cape Wagtail Street is sadly in need of repair, something that Tracy has also reported, but once again, no response from the municipality, despite motorists have to duck and dive and dodge all the potholes and rough areas in their daily trips to and from their places of employment.
Guaranteed, had any high-ranking ANC official lived in this complex, these issues would have been attended to almost immediately, but unfortunately the residents here are just very ordinary working people trying to make a living and providing for their families.
Can we possibly expect some response from council in respect of the above two matters, or is this just another exercise in futility?
At the same time on behalf of other residents, I’d like to thank Tracy for doing her best in her capacity as councillor for Kelvin, although all her pleas on our behalf are simply being ignored.

The street light problem in Kelvin Estate is related to a street light supply cable which has suffered from multiple cable faults.
A section of the cable is being replaced and all the lights should be back in working order soon.
