This letter is a response to the “aircon” statement made by Azure Fey (February 27 edition).
Azure, you’re entitled to your opinion, just as I am. But you don’t know me. You know nothing about me.
For your information, I do give a lot to the underprivileged. I give clothes to the Red Cross who distribute where needed. I give money to the SPCA.
I worked for a year and a half at a home for mentally handicapped children. But I, like many South Africans, live on a very tight budget and to be honest, my home and my family come first in my life.
And I am able to sit “on my throne” in my “luxury” car because I studied hard and worked hard to finally, after 24 years of working, be able to buy my first new car.
I feel the way you “attacked” me, on a personal level, because of my opinion, was uncalled for.
These was nothing wrong with the statement I made about “something needs to be done” about the little children who are standing all day, in the blistering heat, with their mothers.
If the mothers could let their children sit on the pavement under a tree, it would already be better. But to force a two-year-old toddler to walk in between the cars on a busy road, in peak hour traffic, in 30 degree heat, is wrong and totally unfair to the innocent child.
The fact that the toddler didn’t have any shoes on, just made a bad situation worse. And that is my opinion.
