I am a concerned neighbour who stays in Kittyhawk Street in Rhodesfield.
The house next door is littered with rubbish outside the gate. Looks like a mini rubbish dump.
The house has been rented out. The rubbish collectors are not collecting the rubbish at all.
This problem is becoming serious as it is creating a rat manifestation problem. This is also opposite a primary school.
I have seen kids picking at the rubbish as they are naturally curious. I would like to know what the role of the municipality is in such a case.
Doesn’t the owner of the house get fined? Besides this problem it is creating a health hazard for all of us.
A metro spokesman replies:
Investigations were conducted at the said area and it was established that refuse was disposed of on the pavement and not in refuse bags as supposed to be on collection day, which unfortunately has led to stray dogs having a feast.
However, waste management services has engaged the services of the department of environmental health for intervention with the owner of the property, whom they have been in contact with for urgent correction of the situation.
