HERMAN VAN RYNEVELD of Allen Grove writes:
During the large sports day hosted by Hoƫrskool Kempton Park, a vehicle was broken into and thanks to the Allen Grove sector 2 residents, the owner of the vehicle still has her vehicle today with nothing taken.
Allen Grove residents have recently started a Whatsapp group in an attempt to notify other residents of suspicious activity and crime within the area that is currently out of control. Drug dealing and robberies are more frequent than ever.
As I received the message to be on the lookout for the occupants of the vehicle that tried to steal the other vehicle, I was driving in the area to see whether the vehicle was still around. I arrived at the scene where they tried to steal the LDV and decided to go to the school to have them announce that the owner should return to her car.
As not to forget the registration number, I took a photo. This was when I was confronted by a local metro police woman driving a Nissan Hardbody, registration number XRP162 GP, who questioned me and treated me as if I was the criminal, claiming it was against the law to take photos of registration numbers as per the act.
I asked what act this was published in and was told to google it. Go figure that she does not even know what act, as there is no act against this. I confirmed this with various senior members of the police.
Maybe instead of treating the local community like criminals, maybe you should be thankful that we are merely trying to assist and make your jobs easier.
