ANONYMOUS from Birchleigh North writes:
The residents of Birchleigh North have been living in fear after ongoing housebreak-ins over the past few months.
All cases have been reported to Norkem Park SAPS but nothing has been done.
When Norkem SAPS is contacted regarding the status of the cases opened, we are told the detectives are not available to speak to us.
Some residents have been living in the area for 10 to 35 years.
The suspects live in the area and are known to the local police as their houses were raided for drugs about five years ago. The police’s lack of involvement and assistance in this issue has left the community carrying out their own patrols in the area and as a result risking their lives to protect the area.
Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesman for Norkem Park SAPS, replies:
Unfortunately the police cannot address this complaint unless they are given specific case numbers. Each case is handled differently and as such, is at its own stage of investigation.
People who have complaints should provide reference numbers and specific cases in this regard, so we may know which case to deal with.
People are asked not to make uninformed accusations about the police without relevant and specific case numbers. If the community can provide us with the particular cases, we will be able to help.
