I would like to urge the council to erect speed humps, hopefully three, that can actually slow down motorists.
Two stop signs on Korhaan Avenue have turned into stop only if there is traffic signs. Motorists drive at high speeds throughout the day and night, forgetting the road is a 60km/h zone.
We have taxis passing through, coming from Birchleigh Train Station, heading to Birch Acres Mall, blatantly ignoring the stop sign at Korhaan and Boel Boel streets. The one further down at Korhaan and Hammerkop, has faded into the landscape and is non-existent.
Korhaan Avenue has become the fastest way to get to Pongolarivier Drive if you are travelling from the Norkem Mall area, avoiding all the stop signs and traffic on Mooirivier Drive.
I urge Norkem SAPS and the metro police to help with this problem we have had for years, I am sure fines exceeding R10 000 could be issued in one day if the police parked off at Korhaan and Jan Frederick streets with a speed camera and fine book, especially during peak traffic times.
We have witnessed a minibus transporting children smash into another car because a stop sign was not observed. The kids in transit were between 0-6 years of age. Thank God no one was hurt.
If the council is waiting for a motorist to kill someone at a speed of 120+ km/h on this street before speed humps are installed, then they can ignore this as well.
We have a serious problem with this, petitions have been done, submitted to the council and ignored, temporary solution speed humps have been installed and removed within thee months because they were only installed to shut residents up.
The same thing has occurred on Kwartel Road and has become useless because a pathway has been created within the speed hump so motorists don’t have to stop.
