Smash and grabs: hot spots in Kempton Park (Express Aug 21) mentions tips given out by the police to prevent such crimes.
For this, the public is truly thankful. Two contributors to the letters column rightfully sung praises for the police’s quick reaction to arrive at crime scenes when they are called.
For this, we are also really thankful. But the public also has some tips for the police: apart from warning us and arriving quickly when called, please also go out and catch the criminals, prosecute and punish them and remove them from society.
With them out of the way, we do not need to be warned and you do not need to hurry to crime scenes any more. You owe the public the conviction that you are on your way to start winning against criminals who do contact crimes.
These type of crimes have been unacceptably prevalent for too many years. Apart from the current exodus out of crime-ridden suburbs like Van Riebeeck Park like never seen in the history of our town, contact crimes remain the main contributor for bright South Africans, leaving the country and wealthy international tourists choosing other holiday destinations instead.
