I am registered on the e-siyakhokha system with regards to receiving my monthly utilities account on line as I am a pensioner and do not want to stand for hours in a queue to obtain my monthly account.
I have had this facility for several years and it has always been very good with regard to sending my account each month as requested on line.
Unfortunately, I have not received the account for November and started to enquire why this was the case.
I was informed by the Ekhurhuleni call centre that I needed to phone the municipality direct to get an answer to my query and was given two numbers to contact in this regard – one of which did not exist, the other was to a completely different department and was of no assistance.
I then tried the so-called customer care numbers listed by the municipality, as well as the enquiry numbers listed on the actual account document.
Needless to say, there was no answer on any of the numbers rung, one of which was apparently a direct line to the accountant, which was picked up and put down without answering several times.
It is such a pity that the Kempton municipality, which used to be one of the best on the East Rand, has deteriorated to, in my opinion. As the financial analysts like to say, junk status, and begs the question, why do we have to pay rates and taxes for a total lack of customer service shown by a once fine municipality and which was once manned by competent and helpful council employees.
