So while the ANC is wasting yet another few million rand on ridiculous parties (Cape Town), one can understand the frustration of people and why there are so many service delivery protests in this country.
Our government in general has no priorities whatsoever. I think we must send them a dictionary to let them understand what this word means.
My comments come, amid the fact that I have reported a municipal drain that runs through our yard and has been blocked for the past four days, yet there is just no response from the municipality.
The original report was made on January 4 at around 10am. Since then I have made six calls to them, yet on January 7 at 10am the drain was still flowing out at an alarming rate, bringing with it the stench, flies and all the other ugly stuff.
Every time you phone, the answer stays the same: “It is logged, sir”. Logged where? It is going to stay “logg(ck)ed” for a very long time?
Quite a few years ago, some similar incident occurred at another house and we had to use private companies to open the drains, for which we are still waiting for reimbursement from the council.
This time they must come open this, it is their responsibility. Another word our government does not understand. This is not our drain, it is a main line.
Zuma says they want to take over the Western Cape, heaven forbid. Then you’ll see a sharp decline in everything there as well.
Phoned the executive mayor’s office. They gave me the wrong number for a David that does not work there. And the “customer care” line, soon to be changed to the “customer frustration” number – no answer (011-999-3519).
What next? Shall I also go and burn tyres and energy at the depot, stone the trucks and toi-toi?
Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, replies:
Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality’s standby team attended to the blockage in the afternoon of January 7.
The city’s roads and storm water department will temporarily add another sewer team to be on standby so there are two teams on standby.
This temporarily arrangement is to ensure that the department addresses the backlog of sewer complaints received during the festive season break.
The municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused.
