The article, “DA walk out about cadre employment” in EXPRESS of April 16 deserves comment.
The problem mentioned in the article is, of course, not restricted to this municipality – but is countrywide.
The invention of jobs on the governmental gravy train for the party faithful has been the policy of the ANC ever since the country was given away in April 1994.
With the number of provincial governments increasing from four to nine and with three to four ANC stalwarts being employed to do the work formerly handled by a single competent person, the number of people now employed in local and national government bureaucracies is nearly ten times the number it was before 1994.
The cost to the taxpayer for the cadres’ salaries and perks is approaching 50% of the total tax collected by the country.
Small wonder then there is no money for genuine service delivery issues and that the potholes in our roads get bigger every day.
