I write to you with so much anger after reading the letter from Anonymous in the April 23 edition.
I live in that street where the crimes take place. I have been mugged twice and they have broken into my house.
My friends have been mugged there and they fought back, only to be thrown over the bridge down to where the cars pass.
And yet the police say they will not know if it’s a crime hot spot if we do not open cases. I will tell you what the police told me: they said almost every week a case was opened by people about the very same spot, but yet they say we do not open cases.
I was scared I was going to be raped. The police come and patrol for two days and then they are gone. I was told they only had one car for Birchleigh and Van Riebeeck Park but when I drive past the police station, there are police cars packed outside.
The police go on as if they work hand in hand with these thugs. I believe if they really wanted to put these men behind bars they would have done so long ago. I just fear that one day someone will be killed and only then will the police wake up.
This has gone out of hand. I don’t feel free any more. These thugs feel they own that corner.
If the police do not take action, the community will soon take it into there own hands as they have done it before. I am pleading with the police now, take action before someone gets hurt or passes away, cause it will not end well.
Cases have been opened, everyone is aware of the crimes.
