Moseley fights in Thailand

He also races motorcycles and plays in a band

SHAUN Moseley (36) of Terenure recently returned home to Kempton after spending three months at the AKA Muay Thai Academy in Thailand.

During this time he also won one of the biggest fights of his career, a Pro Muay Thai fight.

He won in the third round with a technical knockout. Unfortunately it was not for the championship.

Moseley decided to attend the academy after he had heard about it. “It was short notice but I came out on top,” he said.

Muay Thai (Thai kickboxing) is a very aggressive yet beautiful martial art. It’s also known as the art of eight limbs.

“The reason being, is that you use your fists, elbows, knees, shins and feet. It is a stand up striking and various clinching combat sport from Thailand,” Moseley explained.

Moseley said his trainer in Thailand, Fahsuchon Sit O, was four-time world champion in Muay Thai and once awarded best Muay Thai fighter in Thailand.

“In a country where Muay Thai is so big, receiving the title of best Muay Thai fighter is one of the greatest honours,” he said.

Moseley, who is trained by Coach Alan Nortje at Panther Fighting Arts in Benoni. sees Muay Thai as one of his greatest passions. “It is an art, it is not about aggression but purely a sport. It is a lifestyle.

“My training in Thailand has been the best thing that I’ve ever done in my life. It has been a very humbling experience and a dream fulfilled. I will be going again next year,” he said.

Muay Thai is also very big in South Africa. “It’s only getting bigger because it is one of the forms that is also used in cage fighting,” Mosely said.

Mosely, who had been doing karate and Kung-Fu since he was seven years old, said martial arts had always been part of his history. This old pupil from Sir Pierre van Ryneveld High School also races CBR 600cc motorcycles and plays bass for a band named Sacrifist.

He also does recreational diving.
