Ebuhleni shoot-out off to a great start

The KPCC-sponsored Ebuhleni shoot-out, which Tembisa Golf Club wants to grow into a major event, is taking place over two Sundays.

After giving kids from Tembisa Child and Family Welfare a fantabulous Christmas present when they treated more than 80 orphaned kids and their teachers to a Christmas gala on Christmas Day, Kempton Park Country Club (KPCC) then turned to Tembisa Golf Club, sponsoring the club’s inaugural Ebuhleni shoot-out tournament.

‘Indeed the greatest Christmas gift’ was how teachers from the orphanage described Kempton’s hosting of them and their kids on that day.

Beside the food and festivities, the children were delighted when Father Christmas arrived riding through the golf course environs on a motor bike.

Four of the five current leaders: Tinashe Nyika, George Mokela, Oupa Masekwameng and Jack Khunou.

What a day it was, and Sam Serongoane said it came about because of his relationship with the family welfare organisation, and after highlighting the plight of the kids to Mike Sebanz of Kempton Park Country Club.

Tembisa Child and Family Welfare took the opportunity to thank KPCC for the efforts of their staff and the golfing fraternity, including those Tembisa Golf Club members who also took time out to be with the kids.

Meanwhile, the KPCC-sponsored Ebuhleni shoot-out, which Tembisa Golf Club wants to grow into a major event, is taking place over two Sundays.

The first round took place on January 21 and the second and final round will take place on January 28.

The event has attracted so much interest that the field at Ebuhleni was abuzz with golfers the whole day.

Sunday’s first round produced an interesting result, with five players tied for the lead and each one of them worthy of delivering great scores come the final round.

The five players leading the field are George Mokela, Jack Khunou, Bethuel Motsamai, Tinashe Nyika and Oupa Masekwameng.

All five carded below-par scores, but they will have to bring their ‘A’ games to the final, as there is group of about eight players just six shots off the pace.

Pat Maponya said he is ready to fire a great round and does not believe those ahead of him will stand a chance come Sunday.

Benny Makume did not live up to expectations, nor did super veteran golfer Reuben Motsomotso.

The Motheong Section trio of Sam Bhiya, Snowy Moagi and Pepsi Thipe are lurking behind the leaders, and any one of them could produce come the final round.

The fat lady has not sung until the last player has putted out on the 36th hole, and what makes it even more exciting is that anyone within 10 shots can win a golf tournament on the final day, as long as they attack the course and don’t worry about what the others are doing. The leading 12 players going into the final day are Oupa Maswekameng (Rabie Ridge), George Mokela (Mashemong), Tinashe Nyika (Ivory Park), Bethuel Motsamai (Kgatlamping Extension), James Mdidimba (Leboweng), Mao Dimo (Isiziba), Pepsi Thipe (Motheong), Jack Khunou (Moedi), Joe Legodi (Difateng Extension), Joko Makhobo (Phomolong), Jacob Moatshe, and Pat Maponya (Umfuyaneni).

The final round will commence at 7am on Sunday, with prize-giving set to take place at around 3pm.
