Highlands Park FC beat Uthongathi FC

The team’s director, Sinky Mnisi, said the match on Sunday was very tough

Highlands Park FC beat Uthongathi FC 1-0 at Makhulong Stadium, home ground for the Lions of the North on February 25.

The team’s coach, Owen da Gama, said he can not take credit for the win but he commended the technical team for a good job.

He said they are under no illusion of taking the league but they are taking it one at a time and focusing on their next game.

The team’s director, Sinky Mnisi, said the match on Sunday was very tough because Uthongathi FC came in for a draw and they had nine defending players.

“They had parked a Gautrain, not a bus. As Highlands Park we are fighting for promotion, we have to grind the results. We had a lot of changes and we missed a lot of chances,” said Mnisi.

He said they were glad that the coach replaced Thabo Gregory Motlafi with Elias Monene and replaced Lindokuhle Mbatha with Moeketsi Sekola.

“That is where the game changed and we started to play good football again, we were able to penetrate their defence. Relief came at 83 minutes and when Peter Shalulile scored the winning goal.

By the end, the score was 1-0 in favour of Highlands Park FC.

“It was disappointing to see the opponent’s goalkeeper using delaying tactics by continuously falling.

“Our next match is against Witbank Spurs, I want to ask Tembisa residents/supporters to accompany us. We need them more now as we are trying to win the title.

“We also want to thank the Tembisa community for supporting the team. Entrance to our home games will be free.”
