Tembisa soccer players get kit for Easter tournament

Nyase emphasised that young people should focus on their education and participate frequently in sports

Local soccer coaches and former Kaizer Chiefs development players Robert and Obed Sithagu have received a welcome donation from a company in Midrand.

BET.co.za Midrand, as part of its sports sponsorship programme, donated six bags of full soccer kit to the inaugural Tembisa Youth Development Easter Games tournament, which kicks off on March 30.

Regional manager Mukhethwa Nyase told The Tembisan that BET.co.za is very passionate about sports, soccer specifically.

“Through our Alberton branch, we’ve been looking for a way to give back in the Ekurhuleni district,” Nyase said. “As we were doing our research, we came across the organisers of this tournament and they presented their goals for the tournament and we felt it was of benefit to the young boys. We would like to have a positive impact in developing soccer players.”

Nyase emphasised that young people should focus on their education and participate frequently in sports in order to avoid negative things which could hinder their future.

“Today’s youngsters could become role models for future generations,” Nyase said. “Those young people taking part in sports are a good influence to others. As BET.co.za, we are there to empower communities and not only to do business.”

Nyase said soccer helps instil discipline in players at a young age.

“On the day of the tournament, we are planning to interact with the players. We are hoping to grow this relationship and in the long run, scout talent.”

Robert Sithagu, spokesperson for the Tembisa Youth Development Easter Games tournament, said they are calling on local teams to enter the event.

The tournament is open to under-13, under-15 and under-17 soccer teams and will take place at the Makhulong Sports Grounds. The event will kick off on March 30 and the final games will be played on April 2. The first and second-placed teams in each category will take home a brand new Puma jersey, trophies and medals.
