Ebuhleni Golfing Facility to host golf executives in the township

Golfers from Tembisa and Tembisa residents are welcome to join the day and cheer on the visitors

Executives that run different golf clubs in Ekurhuleni will for the first time in the history and existence of Ebuhleni Golfing Facility, visit the golf club to not only play golf on July 14 but also to view the facilities and understand their developmental challenges as a club.

“They will be coming to Ekasi with their president, Martin Saaiman, who is also the vice-president of the South African Golf Union,” said Benjamin Monyanyedi, the club’s organising secretary.

“It can’t be bigger than this for us in Tembisa Golf, as these executives come to Ebuhleni bringing with them vast amounts of knowledge in terms of how clubs are run, how they are supposed to raise funds and how they can self-sustain,” said Monyanyedi.

Monyanyedi emphasised that Tembisa Golf Club invited them to the experience the club’s facilities and also to offer them an opportunity to see what challenges they face at the club and on the golf course.

“Tembisa Golf Club utilises Ebuhleni for developmental purposes. This is where we grab young township talent. That is where we are able to find young boys and girls who can potentially get somewhere by participating in sport.

“Therefore it is important that while we are serious about development, we are also able to get the Ebuhleni facility to a level where boys and girls who visit the facility can take some pride in what the facility offers, knowing that it will be a means to an end.”

Monyanyedi said they plan to make it a memorable day for the ‘Mlungus’ (visiting executives) even though they do not have halfway facilities or a clubhouse.

“We will serve them with hospitality and a braai is also on the menu,” said Monyanyedi.

“Golfers from Tembisa and Tembisa residents are welcome to join the day and cheer on the visitors.”

Over the years Tembisa Golf Club has managed to produce talented youngsters, only to fall out at some point because the club faces too many challenges to accommodate golfers with talent.

“We also want to showcase some of our talented youngsters who are in our development programme thanks to the coaching trio of Sam Serongoane, Harry Mthembu and Frans Molepo. The three coaches are passionate about what they do and as a club, we are grateful to have them.

“Anyone who might be interested in assisting in any way is more than welcome to enquire at Ebuhleni during the week. They can speak to James Mdidimba or Willie Lesufi who are the golf directors responsible for the golfing that is taking place here week in and week out,” said Monyanyedi.
