Soccer scouts to attend primary school tournament

The launch for the four-school soccer tournament saw girls and boys soccer teams having great fun

Tembisa’s promising young footballers were inspired at the inaugural Motshana FC Primary Schools League on August 22, as both local and professional youth scouts encouraged them to grab the opportunity and reach their goal in football.

The league will run from August 22 up until October 19 at both Winnie and Reagile primary schools.

The launch for the four-school soccer tournament saw girls and boys soccer teams having great fun on the field of Reagile Primary School on Wednesday.

Themba Ngwenya, a youth scout from Mamelodi Sundowns FC, is one of the scouts helping the local coaches in the Motshana FC Primary Schools League to develop talent in the community.

According to the tournament organiser, Mankgonyane Motshana, he launched the primary school tournament aiming to help local schools to acquire soccer equipment.

“Sports are being promoted in schools but our schools are facing enormous challenges in terms of sporting equipment. Our youngsters play on the field without soccer boots and proper kits and they suffer injuries that lead to them ending up losing the love for sports. I firmly believe when these children play sports with no proper equipment, they don’t feel confident or free to show off their talent,” added Motshana.

Motshana said he is hoping to reach the goal of every school partaking in the tournament going home with a soccer kit, balls and boots, amongst other items to be won.

“I am appealing to local business people or any good Samaritan to donate soccer boots or anything that will make a difference in the lives of these promising young footballers. We want to strengthen young players’ ability to play competitive football. For us to achieve this we need community members to be part of this tournament. Parents shouldn’t wait for their children’s success but they too should be involved and see what their children are capable of,” said Motshana.

The opening games of the tournament saw both girls and boys soccer teams from Mpumelelo and Rev A Mapheto primary schools and Reagile and Winnie Mandela primary schools locking horns.
