Mukuru Menemene FC whips Mathatafela FC 1-0
It was a challenge for the boys to score because of the playing pattern he was using in the first half.
Mukuru Menemene FC got whipped 1-0 by Mathatafela FC on Sunday at Phomolong sports ground.
Lucke Dlakama, coach for Mukuru Menemene, said in the first half they lost a lot of chances because their strikers failed to use available opportunities.
“We defended very well but unfortunately we only had one middle fielder standing in position. The other middle fielder was not standing in his position,” said Lucke.
He said he didn’t do any substitution because he was trying to assess the game. When the whistle blew for half-time break, the score was 0-0.
During half-time Lucke said he told Mukuru Menemene FC’s boys to move the ball forward and he instructed the strikers to shoot as soon as they get to the 18 area.
“Unfortunately no one was trying to do that. Whenever they got to 18 area their ball control was not good enough. I think we need to practice more on our shooting system,” said Lucke.
He said in the second half they were pushing forward and they created more chances.
“Unfortunately we could not convert those chances into goals. We had a penalty in the 18 area but the referee did not award us that penalty. That is when the opponent got to score their goal.
Mashamaite Mokgetle of the winning team said he had young boys in the field. He said he also did not make any substitute in the first half.
“The game was easy from the beginning, we only needed to finish our goals,” said Mashamaite.
He said it was a challenge for his boys to score because of the playing pattern he was using in the first half.
“The pattern I used was 4-5-1; I was using only one striker. In the first half I did not have enough players on the field. During half-time I told my boys to devise a plan to score. When we went to the second half I had enough players, therefore, I changed the playing pattern to 5-4-2.
“This strategy worked to our advantage and we got our goal. I am still disappointed though because I wanted two goals,” Mashamaite explained.
When the final whistle blew the score was 1-0 in favour of Mathatafela FC.
