Top Tembisa athlete jets off to Croatia

The group jetted off to Croatia in Europe on September 4 to defend the championship title won by the South African team in 2016.

Tembisa’s top athlete Best Ngwenya is among the nine athletes selected to represent the country in the 2018 International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) 100km World Championships on September 8.

The group jetted off to Croatia in Europe on September 4 to defend the championship title won by the South African team in 2016.

According to Ngwenya, the athletes’ selection was based on their outstanding performance at the Comrades Marathon hosted in KwaZulu-Natal on June 10.

Ngwenya, of the Nedbank Running Club, won his first-time championship title in the historic race York Longtom 55km when he finished in three hours and 39 minutes in 2016.

This year he took part in the Gaborone Marathon, Loskop Marathon, Tough One’s 32km, among other races.

“It is the first time I am going to compete internationally but I am confident about this trip as we are aiming to bring back the title,” said Ngwenya.

Ngwenya said he tried his best to stay fit and healthy so that he can have a chance to win the IAU 100km championship.
