Mphahlele aims to make his mark in 2018 Tembisa Mile
Mphahlele (20) of the Tembisa Athletics Club was crowned the South Africa u-23 4km cross country championship after winning the 4km race at the South African cross country championship in Port Elizabeth on September 8.
Ryan Mphahlele continues to make Tembisa proud as he spearheads a strong field of South Africa’s top middle distance athletes in the 2018 Tembisa Mile and 10km.
Mphahlele (20) of the Tembisa Athletics Club, was crowned South Africa’s u-23 4km cross country champion in Port Elizabeth on September 8 in 11:29.
He is also the 2018 Central Gauteng 4km and 1 500m champion.
After a successful track season that saw Mphahlele running a personal best times in the local 1 500m, he outsmarted other International athletes in June in Belgium when he took part in 1 Mile and 3 000m races under the leadership of his manager Marcel Viljoen of Fitness From Africa Coaching.
This young promising athlete is aiming to become the first Tembisa athlete to win the Elite Men’s Mile.
Other middle distance stars coming to Tembisa Mile are Rantso Mokopane of North-West University, Pukke Random, the defending champion of the 1 Mile race, Jerry Motsau of Boxer who is the former SA 1 500m and the 2018 SA 5000m champion. He is also the Tembisa Mile record holder.
Tshepo Tshite of Nedbank Club, the reigning SA 800m champion, and Nkosinathi Sibiya of KwaZulu-Natal Athletics, who is the reigning SA 1500m champion, will also take part.
The winners in both men and women categories of the Elite Mile and the 10km will each take home R 2 000.
Prize money for the event is sponsored by Threshhold. Tembisa Mile and 10km will take place on October 28.
The race will start and finish at the Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre, corner Star Street and Andrew Mapheto Drive.

The registration fee for the 10km is R100 for ASA licensed athletes. Unlicensed athletes must buy a temporary licence at R20.
The 1 Mile registration fee is R40 and the temporary licence fee is R10. All finishers will receive medals.
The first 1 500 finishers of the 10km event will get SPAR Goodie Bags.
Discovery Vitality members will get 600 Vitality fitness points for completing the 10km.
