Kempton Park FC reserves still without points

Special mention should go to Ngobeni who, despite his age, was the best player on the park

Kempton Park Football Club’s reserve team is still without points after their 2-3 defeat in the second round against Sporting at Christopherson Park on Saturday.

Coach John Mann was fully aware of the danger Sporting posed and all the pre-match talk was thrown out of the window when Sporting took the lead after only two minutes.

The Sporting number nine, Terance Mafoyang, probably couldn’t believe his luck when he controlled a long ball and turned to find no Kempton Park defenders nearby. Young debutant goalkeeper Lesley Thubakgale rushed impulsively off his line and the striker chipped the ball up and over and it was 1-0.

Kempton dominated proceedings for the next 20 minutes until, completely against the run of play, Sporting doubled its lead.

Kempton deserved a break and it came when some horrendous defending allowed Mack Botopela to cross the ball into the six-yard box for Mbuso Thango to slot from close range.

Kempton went seeking an equaliser and with two minutes left, they found it. Verenga received the ball down the left and, as he had done most of the day, shielded it with much aplomb. He turned to his right and slipped past another defender before drilling a low shot through many legs underneath Moloi in the Sporting goal.

The Kempton Park Reserves must be wondering how they lost by 2-3 against Sporting after dominating the game so comprehensively.

Special mention should go to Ngobeni who, despite his age, was the best player on the park by a country mile. Surely he will be knocking on the first team door before too long.
