Liverpool Football Club suffers second defeat in Midrand League

Makang slaughters Liverpool.

Makang FC enjoyed a 4-0 victory over Liverpool FC in a Midrand Local Football Association (MFLA) league match at Rabie Ridge Stadium on Sunday.

Liverpool, coming from a 4-1 lashing by Mighty Stars, hoped to turn the tables and walk away with a win to stay on top of the log, but Makang had a different game plan coming into the match.

Liverpool showed composure from the start of the game with Gift Mola missing a few chances before the half-time whistle. Both teams dominated the centre of the field. Makang’s keeper made a few free-kick saves before his team broke the deadlock in the 27th minute when Keamogetsi Mosidile scored from a free kick.

The second goal came from Tumelo Matjang in the 31st minute, making the score 2-0 at half-time.

Makang FC at Rabie Ridge Stadium played against Liverpool FC in a league match for the top spot on the log.

In the second half, Makang was awarded a penalty, which Mosidile put into the back of the net, bringing his team’s score to 3-0.

Liverpool kept on pushing, creating chances, but could not get the goals. Mola found a chance against the keeper, but shot over the bar.

Meshack Matlala, Liverpool coach, said two losses in a row was not good for them as they were chasing the top of the log.

“They did not play according to their game plan and the boys were not switched on. They are losing morale and there is a lot that has to be tackled during our sessions,” said Matlala.

Makang coach Michael “Msheke” Madolo said many of their players were suspended and others were unavailable.

“It is a good team to compete against. We need to go and work on our finishing touches, try to get more goals next time and work on the listening skills of the boys,” said Madolo.

“It was an outstanding match. We launched counterattacks from the get-go to score early goals. The second half was calmer for us as the opposition had to chase the game because they were two goals behind. They became frustrated and began playing individually and that allowed us to benefit from their mistakes,” said Makang FC captain Thabelang Ngoash.
