Piranhas from ESP Aquatics do well at swimming regionals

The small team of five Piranhas from ESP Aquatics made new friends at the Eastern Aquatics Level 3 Regionals at the Delville pool in Germiston when they were joined by the team from Tanzania.

The Tanzanian team was supported by coach Alex Mwaipasi and manager Inviolata Itatiro. They swam very well with Natalia Ladha winning gold in the 200m backstroke.

The swimmers from Tanzania were Nabeel Gahhu, Ria Save, Peter Itatiro, Natalia Ladha, Sophia Latiff, Aravind Raghavendran and Isabelle and Niamh Powell.

Over 800 swimmers took part in the competition. Heats needed to be swam for swimmers to qualify to compete in the finals, which were swam in the evenings.

The Piranhas also excelled, with the five swimmers all swimming personal best times. They qualified for 17 finals.

Clayton Malaza won one gold and one silver medal in the four finals he qualified for.

Mikayla Pon swam in six finals, Oyama Malaza three and Annebel van Wyk four.
