Tembisa’s Mulaudzi wins lamb at golf club
Golfers who finished in the top 10 all collected meat prizes.
The 2018 knockout champion, Vele Mulaudzi, from Tembisa, has done it again by winning the second edition of the 2019 Sifiso Motsa Lamb Competition at Kempton Park Golf Club.
Mulaudzi fired 39 points to tie with Sipho Sidu, but won on count out as holder of a lower handicap.
Last year he demolished the field by knocking out the best of the best and won the inaugural knockout competition.
Sidu fired a brilliant iron shot onto the ninth green, but missed the short putt which easily could have made him the winner. However, he settled for a huge pack of chickens.
Sifiso Motsa, who sponsored this event last year, was once again on board. The event saw a huge turnout of golfers and is quickly growing into one of the favourite competitions for golfers.
Golfers who finished in the top 10 all collected meat prizes.
The longest-day prize went to Khulu Hlebela with 24. He was excited because for the first time since he started playing golf, he won something.
Motsa thanked the club’s executive for a well-organised event and committed to sponsoring in 2020 as well.
Tembisa Golf Club’s much-anticipated club championships will take place at Kempton Park Golf Club on May 18 and 19. Defending club champion Jerry Mosia did not play to the best of his ability and finished outside the top 10.
However, he said he was reserving himself for the real deal, which is the club championships. It has been some time since the club championship title went to an Umthambeka Section golfer. Mporo Mathiyase and Bernstein Ndlovu are among the hopefuls from that section and have been firing on all cylinders.
Come next month, they might be the ones to stop Mosia in his tracks.
Another hopeful fighting for the title is no doubt the young Lebo Makume from Moedi Section, who did well during the Vusi Ngubeni Pro Qualifying School earlier this year at Modderfontein Golf Club.
Makume is undoubtedly the man to beat as not only has he matured as a golfer, but also has the arsenal to destroy the field.
He strikes the golf ball very far and his putting has improved. It will not be the end of the world if he does not win, but it will surely dent his morale going forward.
He has much weight on his shoulders as he is Tembisa’s only hope for having its own Tiger Woods.
Also on the favourites list to become the next club champion are Themba Mazibuko, Aubrey Molefe, Kakapa Sibandze, Tau Nkomo, Surprise Selai and the ever-threatening past champion, Nzima Tsotetsi.
