KPFC Castle League team reflects on the past season
Kempton Park Football Club’s Castle League team ended the season in ninth position.
Kempton Park Football Club’s Castle League team reflected on the highs and lows of the season at their prize-giving ceremony on Sunday.
The team’s last match was a home game against champions Luso Africa on Friday. They gave Luso a tough time with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.
The local team concluded the season in ninth position on the league log. Head coach Eddie Dista felt the team worked hard to reach their position.
Under normal circumstances, position nine may be frowned upon as not good enough, but considering that the team fought relegation at one stage, the feeling was that it was quite proper to be a notch below the top eight mark.“We didn’t start the first half of the season on a good note as we only collected 12 points, but we turned things around in the second half and pulled off a miracle and managed to get 24 points,” said Dista.

“This was a new league for all our players and we had lots to learn, but bolstered by passion and the players’ belief that we can do it, this contributed towards the turnaround in the second half of the season.”
Common sentiments from the speakers at the prize-giving were that regardless of where the team was on the log, they were a tough team to face, especially in the second half of the season.
While the team was applauded on their season success, four players were awarded trophies for their good performances throughout.
Given Maredi took most improved player, Euclid Palmer was the top goal scorer, Lefa Mokoena was players’ player and the manager’s player of the year award went to Thato Dlamini.
Vice-chairman Graham Wright congratulated all the players and thanked them for their good performance.
Dista said the plan for the next season was to finish in the top eight. The new season starts in September.
“That is what we hope for, and if we can change our home form, I am sure we can finish in the top five. We will keep improving the club as best as we can, and we also hope for funding,” said Dista.
“Thank you to the players, club and management for pulling through and your continued support.”
