On May 4, Midrand Netball League hosted the Midrand Netball League Games at Rabie Ridge Stadium netball courts.
The matches were the last games of the first leg of the league. The league is divided into two halves and eight games per leg. The games caters for u-13s, u-15s, u-17s and open, which is the first team.
Shooting Stars, M Supers, Mighty Girls and Svukile were some of the teams who took part, with Shooting Stars beating M Supers 17-0 and Mighty Girls winning at 16-10 against Sivukile.
Sibongile Ndaba, secretary of Midrand Netball League, said the are 15 teams competing.
“We are about to finish the first leg of the league. It all started with the rise of teenage pregnancy in our neighbourhood that we decided to take action. Our aim is to try and take the young girls off the streets, away from violence, drugs and alcohol,” added Ndaba.

The games continued with Sunrise locking horns against M Supers’ u-15s. Sunrise won with 23-15.
“We played very well, the only problem is that my players got too relaxed during the game,” said M Supers coach Patricia Nxumalo.
Ndaba, the Sunrise coach as well, said they played with five players against seven, but managed to get the job done.
“We did not have our wings, which made it easy for the opposition to come hard on the attack,” said Ndaba.
“The game was beautifuland both teams played very well. Tsakani Nembetha and Zinhle Malinga scored,” said Sunrise captain Mokgadi Mahladisa.
