KPFC beat Old Bens 3-1 to go to top of the league (galleries)

An extremely challenging encounter awaits this Saturday with a trip to current champions Luso Africa.

Old Bens came to town for a showdown against Kempton Park Football Club (KPFC) in the ILFA Super League on Saturday and went back to Benoni with their tails between their legs after suffering a 3-1 defeat.

Kempton were rarely troubled and could easily have won the game by five or six goals.

Kempton took the lead midway through the half when Mnelisi Mabena powered a shot beyond Old Bens shot-stopper Dale Skinner. Although chances aplenty were created throughout the half, Kempton took a single goal lead into the break.

Kempton extended their dominance when Zivai Verenga controlled neatly on his thigh before twisting around one hapless defender and leaving Kyle Clark for dead, flicking the ball beyond Skinner and ramming his 19th goal of the season into the net.

Verenga turned provider for Kempton’s third after beating the Bens defence with a level of skill rarely encountered in the Super League before rolling the ball across the goal line for Humphrey Botopela to casually side for home.

Bens pulled a goal back in the final minute with a hastily taken free kick that caught Nathi Ngcobi unawares in the Kempton goal.

Another three points gained and Kempton sit proudly joint top of the league.

The ILFA Super League Reserves gained a point and a rare 0-0 result against Old Bens on Saturday with a decent, if ultimately, disappointing display.

Kempton Park’s third team took on league leaders Olympia at the Italian Club in the Easterns Division 1 league and came away with a fabulous 2-1 victory.

Sandile Maisela scored both goals to raise his tally to four this season.

After climbing to the top of the table in the Easterns Division 3 league last week, Kempton Park’s fourth team failed to win for the first time this season, going down 3-2 in a thriller at Benoni Northerns. They fall to third place behind Northerns and Alberton, who both have 100 per cent records.
