Highlands Park prepares for new PSL season

Lions of the North poach new players.

In preparation for the upcoming 2019/20 Premier Soccer League season, Highlands Park have beefed up their current squad with six new players.

The new players are Wayde Jooste and Limbikani Mzava signed from Golden Arrows, Rodney Ramagalela released from Polokwane City, Makhehleni Makhaula poached from Free State Stars, Thela Ngobeni transferred from Mamelodi Sundowns and Marks Munyai loaned from Black Leopards.

So far, the only confirmed player leaving the team is Yusuf Bunting who has been signed by Kaizer Chiefs.

The Lions of the North, as they are popularly known, will open their league campaign against Kaizer Chiefs at the Makhulong Stadium on August 4.

New signing, striker Rodney Ramagalela.

The team’s director, Sinky Mnisi, has appealed for support from local soccer fanatics and law enforcement agencies.

“This is the only team campaigning in the country’s elite league, the PSL within the City of Ekurhuleni, and it is incumbent that we all garner our support, especially when they are playing at home (Tembisa’s Makhulong Stadium). We also need support from the municipality and the police as well to help maintain law and order and to control traffic during our home games,” appealed Mnisi.

The home team will also be facing some stiff competition in the form of Orlando Pirates when they meet in the opening round of the 2019 MTN8 competition.

Last season this home team had an impressive run, finishing off the Absa Premiership campaign in seventh place on the league standings, maintaining their top-flight status for a second successive season.

Meanwhile the PSL have announced a massive increase in the prize-money for the Absa Premiership in the new season with the winners to pocket R15-million, 50 per cent more from last year’s R10-m.
