Kempton Cricket Club’s premier side starts with a very young team
The premier side has three more home games at Barnard Stadium lined up until the end of the year.
Kempton Park Cricket Club has entered a very young team for this season’s premier league.
“We are in a rebuilding phase with players as young as seventeen in the side,” said captain Johan Fourie (38).
Last year the side finished third on the log.
Fourie said they would be happy to finish in the top four of the premier league this year, or even the semi-finals.
“Our toughest competitors this year are Benoni and Boksburg cricket clubs. Benoni was victorious against us in last year’s semi-final.”
The premier side boasts five players who currently play for the Easterns provincial team. They are Wesley Marshall, Armand Erasmus, Danie Rossouw, Wesley Coulentianos and Kofi Apea-Adu.
Marshall also made his debut for the Titans franchise team on October 14 and scored his first 100.
Fourie said Kempton Park Cricket Club is one the biggest in South Africa with 31 teams – 20 junior teams and 11 senior teams.
“It is now my 16th year playing in the premier league. Kempton won the premier league eleven consecutive times, until Benoni took the trophy last year after beating Kempton in the semi-final.”
The premier side has three more home games at Barnard Stadium lined up until the end of the year.
November 10 vs Alberton, November 17 vs Boksburg and November 24 vs Avion.
