Makang Supers FC hopes to come back stronger next season
Makang Supers FC battle to stay in the SAB League.
Makang Supers FC have in the past months enjoyed praise from their home town fans as they are the only Ivory Park team playing in the SAB league.
The players in blue and white were promoted to the league last year after a successful season in the Midrand Football Association League (MFLA). They were crowned the MFLA League champions at Rabie Ridge Stadium in June of the previous season.
The boys are hungry for success but the SAB League games have been put on hold due to the outbreak of the coronavirus (Covid-19). So far 25 games have been played and Makang Supers are sitting at position 14 on the bottom of the log, so they need all the points they can get.
Their coach, Michael “Msheke” Madolo, who led them to victory last season in the MFLA, said some things changed that have affected the team spirit and formation.
They had to drop a number of players and the gelling between new signings and the old players took time.
“At the start of the season we had difficulties but we are coming together now. We have faith in what we do and the results are starting to show because, although we made changes, most players from last season remained on the team,” Madolo said.
During the MFLA crowing they were awarded a cheque for R5 000, a trophy, medals and promotion to the SAB League.
Makang Supers FC still have another division in the MFLA League and they hope to repeat their exciting performance of last year.
Madolo said they wanted to keep another division of players to strengthen their squad and allow other players to gain experience.
“The MFLA League division has so far played 13 games. Our main challenge is facilities to train and play. We train at Ivory Park Kopananong Sports Grounds on a gravel field and we are forced to play our home games at Rabie Ridge Stadium.
“We want to maintain our position and remain in the SAB League by the end of the season and build towards having a tough squad for next season.”
In the past Makang Supers FC lifted the trophy at the first and second Makang Easter Games Tournament, which was founded by their chairman.
“Unfortunately last year we lost in the semi-finals of the tournament. We were supposed to host the fourth annual event this year but it will not take place due to the coronavirus.
“We had big plans to host at least 16 teams for the first time,” explained the coach.
