Vicky to take on Men of Steel

With the help of Stewarts & Lloyds and donors, Vicky will be raising funds for the Frida Hartley Shelter in Yeoville as she takes on the event.

Stewarts & Lloyds hopes to take a stand against the abuse of women.
The group will back seasoned cyclist Vicky Dockray when she takes on the Men of Steel cycle challenge for a good cause.
The event, set to take place over nine days in July, will see Vicky cycle 1 100km from Madrid in Spain to Lisbon in Portugal.
With the help of Stewarts & Lloyds and donors, Vicky will be raising funds for the Frida Hartley Shelter in Yeoville.
The aim is to raise R110 000 for the shelter that accommodates women and their children who have endured neglect, abuse and trauma.
Vicky has cycled thousands of kilometres. In 2016 she completed the Tour of Good Hope.
She said her ride was challenging but rewarding, cycling a 10 speed Merida Scultura for 522km over five days. The same weekend she completed the Cape Argus. In 2018 Vicky completed the Alpine Tour.
“What an unforgettable experience to ride some of the renowned Tour de France climbs during this tour, like Alpe De Huez, Col du Galibier and the Col de la Madeleine to name a few.
“I have never had to talk, motivate and threaten myself so much up some of those climbs and had to face my fear of downhills,” she said.
In 2019 Vicky took on yet another feat when she rode from Germiston to Maputo, a total of 685km, in four days.
2020 was a year that was mostly spent on their couch, but Vicky who has a heart for charity took on the 360km Ultra on an MTB.
“During the lockdown, I raced for 16 hours and 47 minutes on a stationary bike on Zwift.”
During the event, she raised money for those who had no means to buy food during the pandemic.
“The race started at 15:00 on a Friday, mine started at 15:20 as my Zwift had a glitch and I had to restart three times.
“I stopped halfway to quickly change clothes and jumped back on, I finished the race as the third woman at 07:47 the next morning.”
Now in July, Vicky will ride under the Stewarts & Lloyds banner when she takes on the 1 100km event.
She hopes to raise R110 000 or R10 per kilometre for the Frida Hartley Shelter (FHS).
The funds will help empower and educate vulnerable women, giving the women of Frida Hartley and their children a future.
