Kempton Park Football club hosts U/17 trials

The youngsters from various areas around Thembisa and Kempton Park proved themselves worthy of the Kempton jersey.

Kempton Park Football Club hosted its annual U17 football trials in Kempton Park on December 3.

Many young and hopeful boys arrived with shin pads and soccer boots ready to prove themselves worthy of donning the Kempton jersey.

“The most important aspect of selecting players is in identifying the discipline of the players.

“This includes seeing if they can take instructions on and off the field and whether they listen to what the coach asks of them,” said U17 coach, Dunga.

“What we also look for is the players’ level of understanding of the game, whether they can read the game and cover spaces where necessary.

“What we also need from the players is a sense of unity and playing as a team, because ultimately the players need each other on the field if they are to accomplish anything during the match.”

“Technical ability is also important. At this age we expect the players to be able to trap and pass the ball, keeping the ball safe within our possession, marking and so forth.

The aspiring players played against the current team in a game of experience and skill.

The players from different areas around Thembisa and Kempton Park were assessed and are yet to be selected.

Their next season starts in the first term of 2023.
