Local golfer aims big for the future
The Serengeti resident has joined the Ekurhuleni Quadrangular U15 team.
Fourteen-year-old golfer Connor Olfsen, who is celebrating being the newest member of the Ekurhuleni Quadrangular U15 team, is also playing for Central Gauteng.

Watching his father play attracted this amateur golf player to the sport as he grew up.
He said playing golf has helped him to make friends.
“You can make friends on the golf course.
“It is a lot of fun and every game is different. Some days are challenging and on some, you play your best golf ever. It is a competitive sport,” he stated.

He joined the Balderstone Sports Institute (BSI) last year and expressed how shy he was at the beginning.
“BSI has made me feel comfortable. The coaches have played a huge part in improving my game.

“When I made the team, I was happy because two years ago I qualified for the U13 but then, unfortunately, my age didn’t allow me to play in the division anymore, which was sad.
“This achievement is an enormous step in the right direction for my golfing career,” added Olfsen.
He started playing competitive golf for Ekurhuleni about three years ago. His dream is to become a professional golfer, play overseas and tour.
“I want to play more to get my professional rankings up. My goal is to play at Golf RSA one day. Last year, I took some time off to get used to my swing again.”

Optimistic and confident about his future, the enthusiastic golfer went from shooting in the 80s to the 70s.
“My game has improved a lot and I am confident I can do it. I am slowly catching up with the older players,” he added.

He is inspired by professional golfer Rory Mcllroy who he said is a good player who respects the game and never takes anything for granted.

His advice to other golfers is to always strive to be the best that ‘you’ can be.
He thanked his family for always being supportive.
