Jacque-Jean-Pierre Grobler (JJP), a learner at Hoërskool Kempton Park, was invited to join the Ekurhuleni boxing team for the Gauteng Beginners Championships.
This prestigious opportunity could be the first step toward a promising sporting career.
However, financial constraints threaten to hold him back. To continue pursuing his boxing dreams, JJP urgently needs sponsorships and donations.

The Grade 10 learner started boxing in 2020, inspired by the discipline and dedication required in the sport.
Watching professional boxers ignited his passion, and with the guidance of his mentor, K9 Kaine Fourie, he began his journey.
“My hard work, skills, and commitment caught the attention of the right people. My performance in past tournaments and dedication during training led to my invitation,” said JJP.

“This opportunity is a stepping stone to a bigger stage, allowing me to gain more experience and showcase my talent at a provincial level.”
JJP’s coaches JJ Dicks, the late Willem Dicks, Harry Dicks, and Michael Dicks, a family of boxing professionals from KMO Boxing Club, have played a crucial role in shaping his skills and mindset.
“Boxing is not just a sport but a way of life,” he said.
JJP follows an intense training schedule, including strength training, endurance exercises, sparring sessions, and technical drills.
He spends hours in the gym refining his footwork, speed, and power while focusing on mental conditioning to stay sharp in the ring.

His short-term goal is to perform well at the Gauteng Beginners Championships and gain valuable competitive experience.
In the long term, he aspires to become a professional boxer, following in his mentor’s footsteps.
“K9 Kaine Fourie has taught me not just the technical aspects of boxing, but also the importance of discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship. I learnt success comes from hard work and consistency,” said JJP.
JJP’s mother, Sonja Grobler, said financial constraints remain the biggest challenge in supporting his training, equipment, and travel expenses.
“As a family, we do our best to support him, but sponsorships and community backing would make a huge difference in helping him achieve his dreams,” she said.
Breast Intentions, a breast cancer awareness NPO, has sponsored JJP with boxing apparel.
However, additional sponsorships for training expenses, boxing gear, and competition entry fees would be invaluable.

“Donations towards travel costs to tournaments would also help JJP compete at higher levels.
“Support can also come through attending his fights and spreading awareness about his journey,” she added.
Despite his demanding training schedule, JJP prioritises his academics.
His family ensures that schoolwork comes first, reinforcing the importance of education alongside his boxing career.
“Boxing has taught him discipline, which helps him stay focused in school.
“While there are no professional boxers in the family, he is paving his own path and setting a legacy,” said Sonja.
JJP will compete in the Gauteng Beginners Championships as part of the Ekurhuleni boxing team. The community can support him by:
• Donating via his BackaBuddy account, Support JJP’s Boxing Dream
• Attending his fights and cheering him and his teammates on
• Following and sharing his journey on the KMO Boxing Facebook page.
“Every child deserves support in their passion. Encouragement builds confidence, teaches discipline, and helps them develop life skills that will benefit them in the future,” said Sonja.
JJP leaves aspiring young athletes with this message, “Never give up on your dreams. With hard work, dedication, and self-belief, you can go far. Stay humble and keep praying.”
