Local companies bring unity in football matches

Colleagues unite for a game of football.

Colleagues from various companies met for fun and camaraderie at Olifantsfontein Sports Grounds to participate in a thrilling top-four football tournament on March 1.

The event sought to build relationships between employees of different organisations. It uses their universal love for football to unite people, as the sport has united South Africans for decades.

The competition featured teams from Bounty All Stars, DPD Laser, Amabutho, and Jikeleza, who joined last year and were inspired to make the tournament an ongoing tradition.

However, because of month-end family commitments, only half of the Bounty All Stars and Amabutho teams were available.

As a result, the two sides merged into a single team to ensure the games could continue as planned.

The newly formed Amabutho & Bounty All Stars team took on Jikeleza, with Jikeleza securing a 3-1 victory.

In the second match, Jikeleza faced DPD Laser, resulting in a 3-3 draw, leading to a penalty shootout where DPD Laser emerged victorious.

Ntokozo Zulu from Bounty Brands expressed his appreciation for the event, highlighting its importance beyond the game.

“We met through a love for football, and it continues to unite us. This event plays a prominent role in our physical health and social lives.

“I thank all the football lovers, friends, and families who showed up. This is more than football; it is about men coming together, facing challenges, and using sport to stay fit and clear their minds.”

Zulu also commended Jikeleza supporters from Tembisa Ntsonalanga, who attended in large numbers, bringing refreshments and creating an electric atmosphere as if it were a professional match.

“It is incredible to see men bringing their cars, coming for a friendly match, and staying the whole day for football.

“It shows they genuinely enjoyed, though there is no prize money involved. Some guys usually play for money, but here, they come to refresh and unwind. That makes it special,” he said.

The tournament has proven to be more than just a game. It is a platform for building friendships, staying active, and fostering a positive and supportive environment among colleagues.
