Birch Acres walks away with a 2-0 victory in the Norkem Festival tournament
Both teams gave it their all to increase their chances of winning the tournament.
The intensity rose on June 11 as Birch Acres Primary School U12 and Farramere Primary School faced off in a gripping clash on the second day of the Norkem Festival.
Both teams arrived determined to take the coveted trophy home.
Birch Acres started strongly, closing down every opportunity for Farramere and working hard to prevent any shots on target.

The first half was tough, but their defence stayed solid, supporting the goalkeeper to maintaining a clean sheet.
Coach Sikhokele Tindleni of Birch Acres Primary said that while the game was challenging, he was pleased with the result and acknowledged areas needing improvement.
“The first half was a bit icy, but the boys managed to score the first goal. Our opponents were quite good, so it was a tough match.
“We added a second goal in the second half, but we still have to work on a few things if we want to win the tournament. I want the boys to be more confident — they didn’t bring what we practised. That’s something we need to build on,” said Tindleni.

The opening goal came from Kamogelo Mboweni, giving Birch Acres early momentum. Though Farramere pushed for an equaliser, Birch Acres’ defence remained impenetrable.
Farramere’s frustration began to show as their communication and focus broke down. The half ended with Birch Acres leading 1–0.
Farramere’s coach, Chloe Reid, said her team gave their all against a formidable opponent.

“It was a tough game against a very experienced team. It was physical and fitness-based, and while we didn’t win, I believe the boys gave it their best.

“There was one player who impressed us with his heart. I’m proud of the team. We’ll go back and work on our backline and communication,” said Reid.
In the second half, both teams fought hard. Farramere strengthened their midfield to regain control, but a defensive lapse allowed Birch Acres to break through.
Keamogetswe Ramphele sealed the win with a decisive second goal. Despite continued pressure from Farramere, they couldn’t break through. Birch Acres’ defenders and goalkeeper held firm to secure a 2–0 victory and a clean sheet.
Birch Acres centre-back Gerald Nwankwo expressed satisfaction with the win but believes there is still work to do.

“We could have done better — we’re not finishing our chances. Sometimes we waste opportunities.
“But I believe if we play at full strength, we can win the tournament. Farramere’s midfield dominated at times, but we could’ve countered that and scored more,” said Nwankwo.
