From the opening whistle, Lionhearts dominated possession. The visitors proved resolute in defence, making it difficult for the hosts to find an early breakthrough.

Persistence paid off when Gundo Mabuli opened the scoring, giving Lionhearts a deserved 1-0 lead before half-time.
Lionhearts coach Tshepo Bokusha praised his team’s discipline and determination.

“My team performed very well, they played like Lionhearts FC. We have a style of football that many teams should watch out for. The boys understood the game plan, stuck to it, and secured us the three points,” he said.

The home side pressed hard after the break, keeping Benoni’s attackers at bay while creating several chances of their own.
Eventually, Tshimoloho Selekane doubled the lead, further piling pressure on the visitors.

Benoni Northerns coach Ian Hurn, missing five regular starters, acknowledged his side’s effort despite the setback.

“We played really well, although some of the decisions didn’t go our way. With five of our starters out, the score could have been different, but I’m proud of the boys,” he said.

Parents also shared their pride.

“They did their best and are improving every week. It’s always fun to watch them play. Mistakes happen, but it’s all part of the learning experience,” said Aneesa Swart, whose son plays for Northerns.

With momentum fully in their favour, Lionhearts sealed the result late in the game when Lawrence Jnr Mutisi slotted in the third goal.

For Mutisi’s father, the goal was extra special. “The boys really played well. They’ve had some tough games with draws and losses recently, so this was wonderful to see. I’m happy with their performance today.”

The result reinforced Lionhearts’ reputation as a team to watch, while Benoni Northerns showed grit and promise despite the defeat.
