Laerskool Kruinsig rugby stars selected for SA U13 tour to Italy
Keagan van der Nest and Nathan de Beer will represent South Africa on an international rugby tour to Italy after standout performances at Rhino U13 Week and Craven Week, showcasing their talent and dedication.
Hard work, dedication and talent have opened doors for two young Laerskool Kruinsig rugby players.
Keagan van der Nest and Nathan de Beer were selected to represent SA on a rugby tour to Italy following their impressive performances at the Rhino U13 Week in July.
Both players were part of the Kruinsig First Rugby Team (2025) and were chosen for the Valke U13 Craven Week tournament held in East London in June.
Their selection will see the athletes showcase their skills, gain international experience and represent their school, community and country.

“It is a privilege for me because I never thought that at my age, I would be doing this well in my career. I am excited for what is to come and can’t wait for the tour,” said Van der Nest.
“I am thankful for the gift God gave me and grateful for everyone who supports and believes in me.”
Keagan’s dedication and passion for rugby have been evident throughout the season. His participation in the school’s first team and the Craven Week tournament highlights his growing potential.
His mother, Chantel van der Nest, said the family is proud of him, but the financial demands of the tour are significant.
“As a family, we are grateful for this opportunity and fully committed to supporting Keagan throughout this exciting chapter.
“However, the financial requirements are substantial, and we are reaching out for sponsorships or contributions to help make this dream possible,” she said.
Meanwhile, Nathan de Beer has also had an exceptional rugby season. He captained the Kruinsig first team as an outside centre, served as vice-captain of the Valke U13A Craven Week team, and captained the Rhino Week U13A team in July.
“I can’t believe that I was selected for the tour. This shows that my hard work and dedication are paying off. I can’t wait for the tour; it’s proof that anything is possible,” said De Beer.

Following his outstanding performance at Rhino Week, Nathan earned the honour of representing the SA U13A team on their tour to Italy, from December 1 to 15.
His father, Michael de Beer, said the family could not be prouder.
“We are proud of Nathan and thankful for the opportunity he has been given. This tour is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him to represent SA,” he said.
The journey to Italy comes with significant costs, but the community is rallying behind the boys in inspiring ways.
James from Food Lover’s at Harvest hosted a boerewors roll fundraiser at the end of August, while Bossa Glen Marais held an Italian pizza night on September 25.
An upcoming golf day at Avion is another way to support the cause. Entry: R2 000 per four-ball, including green fees, goody bags and dinner.
Two BackaBuddy campaigns were launched to help with fundraising.
The families of both athletes call on local businesses, sports fans and community members to get involved, whether through donations, event participation or spreading the word. Every contribution helps.
