2025 Thembisa Mile to host 10km provincial championships
The 2025 Thembisa Mile will reach new heights as it welcomes the 10km provincial championships, marking a major milestone for township athletics.
The 2025 edition of the Thembisa Mile is set to be one of the most exciting yet, as it will host the 10km provincial championships, adding a new level of prestige to the annual township race.
Speaking at the race launch, Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) general manager Mandla Radebe expressed pride in the event’s growth and impact on local sport. “It is my privilege and pleasure to be part of launching yet another Thembisa Mile race. What is exciting about this year’s race is that it will be hosting the 10km champs,” said Radebe.

He commended the organisers for their continued commitment to developing athletics in the township. “We applaud Thembisa Mile and Thembisa Athletics Club for the continued success of the race and, most importantly, for bringing such a great athletics event to a township,” he said.
Radebe added that CGA hopes to see all elite middle-distance athletes take to the start line on 26 October 2025 and encouraged other townships to follow Thembisa’s lead.
“Our wish as the province is that this race encourages other townships within our province to create similar shorter-distance races which promote development participation,” he said.
He extended best wishes to the organisers for a smooth and successful event, expressing confidence that the race will once again meet its entry targets.
