Young athletes shine at Interschools 2026 B-Circle

Athletes showcased their talent in the Interschools 2026 B-Circle.

Laerskool Kreft opened its gates on February 9 to host the Interschools 2026 B-Circle athletics meeting, where young athletes competed for top honours and school pride.

Learners showcased their talent across a range of field and track events, including high jump, shot put, long jump and track races.

Participating schools were Laerskool Kreft, Cresslawn Primary School, Chloorkop Primary School, Mooifontein Primary School, Maranatha Christian School, Birch Acres Primary School, Shangri-La Academy and Curro Serengeti Primary School.

The U13 girls’ shot put event proved highly competitive, with Ava van Oudtshoorn from Maranatha Christian School delivering an outstanding performance to claim first place.

“The day was really nice. The girls were also nice and it was a very wonderful environment to be in.

“I honestly think I could have done much better since this was my first tournament of the season, so obviously I can improve, but I was pretty happy with my performance,” said Van Oudtshoorn.

Kiara de Jager from Shangri-La Academy secured second place after an impressive performance that intensified the competition for the top three positions.

“My experience was good and I am very impressed with my performance.

“My opponents were very good, especially the girl who finished first. I don’t think there is anything I would have changed. Although I did not finish first, I did not experience any challenges,” De Jager said.

In the high jump events, both boys and girls gave their all as they competed fiercely for podium finishes, with some athletes determined to defend titles won in previous years.

“I was heartbroken because I did not finish first, but I achieved my best, so I am impressed with my skills and my improvements. I encountered a few challenges, my knee and ankle were painful.

“The first-place finisher was very tall, and I think that worked to his advantage. I thought I would finish first because I beat him last year, but there is always improvement in someone,” said Faro.
