Blue House learner Musa Zulu secured first place, admitting the result came as a surprise.
“The race was not easy, but I am happy that I came first. There is someone I usually race against and lose to, so I expected it to be very tight. I didn’t even see him during the race, which surprised me because I did not expect to win,” said Zulu.
While not every participant claimed victory, the spirit of the day remained strong. Learners took pride in their performances, encouraged by the support of their peers and the opportunity to compete.
Red House runner Qhawekazi Nyathi, who finished second, said she was proud of her achievement despite facing tough competition.
“The race was a bit hard because I was racing against very fast runners. I think I did well, even though I was a bit slower than some of the others. I am proud of finishing second,” she said.
“I do think that wearing better sportswear could have helped me perform even better.”
Adding to the excitement, educators and staff members also took part in their own race, each representing a house. Learners cheered loudly from the sidelines, enjoying the light-hearted competition among their teachers.
The event highlighted the dedication and teamwork of all three houses, with participants and supporters alike showing commitment and enthusiasm throughout the day.

Yellow House runner Keneilwe Fonseca finished in first place and described the race as both fun and challenging.
“The race was fun but also challenging because I was competing against fast runners. That made it more exciting,” she said.
“I feel very happy to have won a medal because I did not expect to finish first.”
