Alleged armed robbers beaten up before police could intervene
During the robbery a plasma TV, cellphones and a laptop were taken at gunpoint.
The station commander of Ivory Park SAPS, Brig David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has welcomed the arrest of two men in connection with a house robbery in Clayville last year.
The arrest was made on March 8 after five people were robbed at gunpoint in Extension 45, Clayville in May 2019.
One of the suspects was recognised by one of the victims in a park in Extension Seven, Ivory Park. The victim called for assistance from the members of the community and two suspects were arrested.
The victim recognised the one suspect as his cousin, who visited him with the other suspect who was arrested two days prior to the house robbery. The two, aged 40 and 41, reside in Thembisa.
During the robbery a plasma TV, cellphones and a laptop were taken at gunpoint.
“The duo was apprehended and, unfortunately, badly assaulted before the police were called and rescued them. They have been admitted to hospital and their docket will be placed before Thembisa Magistrate’s Court in their absence. They will be charged with house robbery,” said Ngcobo.
“We welcome the fact that as soon as the victim saw the suspects he called for assistance from community members. We are, however, saddened by the fact that the suspects were assaulted in the process,” said Ngcobo.
