The Muldersdrift community has handed a man over to the police after making a citizen’s arrest last week.
The man was found with drugs, believed to be Nyaope, in his possession.
Nyaope, also known as Whoonga, is said to contain, among other ingredients, anti-retrovirals that are found in drugs that treat HIV.
The arrest of the 27-year-old man, who was allegedly about to sell the drugs to “young people” in the area, was made by residents of Rietfontein Village.
“The members of the community arrested and handed the suspect over to Constables Ndlovu and Khanyile to be detained and for further investigation. He will be charged and appear in Krugersdorp Magistrate court soon,” said police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hitler Ngwenya.
Ngwenya added that the community of Muldersdrift is tired of crime.
“The Social Crime, Corporate Communication and Sector Manager has managed to enable the community to help fight against the siege of drug dealers,” he said.
The Muldersdrift Police Station Commander, Lieutenenat Colonel Seabi, applauded the community for their dedication and the initiative taken, which lead to the arrest.
“No crime will be tolerated in Muldersdrift,” he said.
