Watch: Coach cited for physical abuse of referee

South African duo Ox Nche and Oupa Mohoje, as well as Pau coach Sébastien Piqueronies will face disciplinary action.

Sharks prop Ox Nche and Cheetahs utility forward Oupa Mohoje have both been cited for foul play in the opening round of the Champions and Challenge Cup.

Nche was red-carded for a dangerous tackle in the second half of the Durban side’s Champions Cup victory over Harlequins at Kings Park.

Nche has been cited under Law 9.13: A player must not tackle an opponent dangerously.

Under World Rugby’s Sanctions, the punishment carries a low-end sanction of two weeks, a mid-range of six weeks and top-end of anywhere between 10 to 52 weeks.

Cheetahs loose forward Mohoje will also be appearing before a disciplinary committee after the EPCR has received a citing complaint against the player.

Mohoje is alleged to have tackled the Pau outside centre, Yvan Reilhac, in a dangerous manner in the 26th minute of the Challenge Cup match, which the Cheetahs won.

That is not the only controversial incident to have come out of the match as Pau coach Sébastien Piqueronies has been cited for physically abusing the referee, Sam Grove-White, after the end of the game.

Under World Rugby’s Sanctions for Foul Play, Law 9.28 relating to physical abuse of a match official carries the following sanction entry points – Low end: 24 weeks; mid-range: 48 weeks; top end: 96+ weeks.

Nche’s citing took place today and by the time of publication was unknown.

The hearings of Mohoje and Piqueronies will be held tomorrow.
