The taxi ranks around Krugersdorp did not know what hit them when Mogale City’s Traffic Department decided to do a ‘clean-up’ operation.
On Thursday, 14 April, a joint operation by members of the Traffic Department, Tswane Metro Police Department, Johannesburg Metro Police Department and Krugersdorp police were launched at local taxi ranks and the bylaws were enforced.

The first stop was the Krugersdorp taxi rank in Pretoria Street, followed by the taxi rank in Market Street and the rank in Leratong.
Superintendent Mosito Mphaphathi addressed the just over 50 officers before the operation kicked off at the Mogale City Public Safety offices.
Over 15 caravans were charged for being unroadworthy and goods were confiscated while hawkers were charged for selling illegal goods on a public road.
The last stop was the Magaliesburg taxi rank where a total of 43 unroadworthy caravans with no number plates and licence discs were also recorded.
