Mother gets three years (suspended) for trying to kill her baby

A newborn baby was found in a local shopping centre's bathroom, in a toilet.

A woman was recently sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for attempting to kill her newborn baby.

The Krugersdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit, which was handling the matter, recently reported that the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court had finalised the case, which was originally reported in May of last year.

The report said that a newborn baby had been found in a local shopping centre’s bathroom, in a toilet. After she was discovered, she received medical treatment and was taken to a local hospital. The 27-year-old mother was arrested that same month and charged with attempted murder.
